For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture.
