WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item upgrade level, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrading upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular item upgrading level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less even when they are part of a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific Item level upgrade level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
