This sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins and they have different functions but the most effective way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, audi Etron key the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite ohms.
