WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item upgrade from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an Item level upgrade's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item upgrades and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

Crests

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
