Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet format of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, constant effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album was a reflection of the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's greater virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's work was more precise, sharper and less cloying than on previous performances.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records.
