iRobot Combo Review

Combo is iRobot's very first mop-and vacuum robot, and is the company's best irobot vacuum and mop-looking. The polished aluminum top and iRobot Logo are more classy than the blatant designs of competitors.

The iRobot Home application is used to help you set up and guide your robot. The app gathers data on usage and maps of your house including furniture and obstructions. Maps and image data are only shared with iRobot if you opt-in.

It's a mop

The Combo irobot roomba for pets, a very intelligent mopping robot, takes all the intelligence of the superb Roomba J7+ and adds a water reservoir onboard as well as a small pad for mopping and a Robot Vacuums iRobot arm that can raise and lower the pad. It can complete many tasks in 111 minutes before running out of juice and returning to its base station to recharge.

The model that includes the irobot roomba vacuum and mop Home app so that you can initiate or stop cleaning runs. It's also a good-looking robot, with matte black plastic that doesn't show fingerprints or dust and an aluminum top piece that is brushed with the small iRobot logo.

It's a fantastic vacuum cleaner, and it does not have any trouble crossing large areas of carpet or transition strips between flooring surfaces. It can even pick-up fine dust that other robotic vacuums fail to pick up. However, it's not well in mowing. It won't remove dried milk stains unless you send it four or five times.

iRobot's dedicated Braava Jet M6 mopping robot, that is available in a bundle with the j7 Plus often for less than the price of the combo Combo, fares much better at this and other tough jobs. It can also clean up ketchup and wine spills, but I wouldn't recommend it to be used after any liquids that contain a large amount of sugar.

It's an air vacuum

It's also one of the more attractive robot vacuums with a smooth and sleek top piece that doesn't show dust and fingerprints as easily as the competition. The tiny dustbin and water tank of this robot vacuum are easy to open, but they're not the most spacious. The Combo J7+ also comes with the smarts you expect from iRobot including maps and obstacle avoidance mapping that works effectively and swiftly. But it's the mopping arm that makes this model stand out in its class. The mop pad is kept on the top of the robot vacuum. When it detects a surface which requires mopping, the pad is lowered underneath and behind the robotic vacuum. This is a significant improvement from other robot vacuums that require you to manually remove the mop pad for hard floors and carpets, or even turn the whole unit off for mopping.

It's a charging station

When you're ready to charge your Combo Irobot, simply place it on the charging station and align its metal contacts to those on the base. The charging station is simple to set up and works well. In my tests it took the robot a few moments to charge before it would make a noise when it was finished. After the Combo Irobot is fully recharged, you can begin a mapping run in the app to help it understand your home. You can also mark certain items such as lamp cords as permanent avoidances within the app. You can also connect your robot to Alexa or Google Assistant, so you can use voice commands to direct it around your home.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots utilize acoustic and onboard sensors to discover the type of floor they're navigating as well as the objects that are in your home. It also combines this knowledge with maps of your surroundings and data from the robot's camera to create a personalized cleaning schedule for each room. This allows it to be smart enough to keep your lamp cords, sofas and other objects you want to keep. Of course, like any other connected device there are concerns regarding the privacy of this data. However, iRobot affirms that it will never sell customer data and no images are captured without customers' consent.
