Lidar is an effective tool for robot vacuums to map their environment, along with cameras and 3D-mapping sensors that offer an elite level of obstacle avoidance. Some prefer a basic vacuum that is inexpensive.

In our tests, this vac produced an editable floor map in both small and large rooms, with good accuracy. It also picked up messes well and performed efficiently in "No-Go" zones we defined.

1. Neato Botvac D4

This Neato is a great choice if you want to take advantage of the convenience of a robot vacuum cleaner without having to sacrifice a lot in terms of performance. It's also iRobot's strongest vacuum, able of grabbing dirt with more granular debris and more pet hair unlike other mid-range models like the Roomba 960. This is because the cleaner has wider brushes that rotate counterclockwise and an engine with more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is iRobot’s least expensive vacuum with lidar that comes with recharge and resume. However it isn't equipped with the auto-empty feature that the I6+ or I7 offer. It doesn't have iAdapt navigation 2.0 and the camera utilized by the I7 to identify objects and avoid obstacles. It's not able to access features like in-app containment or save maps.

The iRobot doesn't have mopping capability. This might not be an issue if you're looking for a top-quality vacuum, but it is a major drawback for anyone looking to buy the hybrid robot vacuum with obstacle avoidance lidar.
