One of the best parts of this robot is its auto-emptying Clean Base, which can hold up to 60 days of trash and eliminate the need for manual maintenance. It also has a recharge-and-resume feature that can send the robot back to its home base for charging when its battery runs out. It then picks up exactly where it began.

The i5+ robot is great for most homes. However, it's not designed for carpeted or staircases. It's a tiny dustbin, so it won't clean the entire house if there is a lot of pet waste or debris. Take a look at the i7 and i9 models if you want a Roomba with more power to handle more challenging environments. These robots are able to mop wet floors and are better equipped for stairs. The iRobot Combo i5/i5+, with its distinctive design and cutting-edge technology, is a great choice for homes who need both a vacuum cleaner and mop.

iRobot Roomba Combo i7

This high-end model offers high-end features and top-of-the-line performance that could entice customers away from the swath of cheaper competitors. In our tests the i7+ performed well, clambering over floor cracks and rugs with ease. It was able to detect furniture and other obstructions with no difficulty. It was unable to get over a 2-inch marble slab that separated the living and kitchen. The edge cleaning capabilities were much better than the results we saw from the budget robot vacuums with a good grip on corners.

Once the i7+ reaches the capacity of its dustbin, it drives back to its Clean Base, empties the contents and then gets ready for the next clean. When it's time to add cleaning fluid, just hit a button on either side of the robot, and a small combo water tank/dustbin clips open.

The only real drawback is that the Clean Base takes up a large amount of space which makes it difficult to tuck the i7+ away in a closet if it's not in use. This is a problem that's common with robot cleaners. Most manufacturers offer smaller charging station that are smaller. These stations are usually capable of fitting under cabinets and make it easier to hide your iRobot while not in use. iRobot has reached out to us following publication to clarify that the Combo i7+ is designed to be used only with the manufacturer-approved cleaning solution (sold separately). It should not be filled with water, as it could harm internal components and cause a decrease in performance.

iRobot Roomba Combo i9
