How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

If your bifold doors are squeaking to the wall, they might need a little maintenance. They could need to be cleaned and lubricated or adjusted. The problem may be caused by an unfastened screw on the top pivot or the top roller guide.

Remove the Door

After you have separated the old guide from the rod blank, make sure to take out all of the epoxy and threads that remain in the place where it was affixed. After you have removed the previous guide, test your replacement by putting it in its new location. Apply a few rotations using masking tape or guide tubing to hold it in position. This will allow you to double check the alignment of the guide and spacing to ensure everything is in place. Take the Bottom Pivot off.

Bifold doors are a beautiful addition to any home but sometimes they need a little tweaking or adjustment to remain in good shape. This is often the result of adding carpet, or other flooring materials which require the doors be slightly raised to allow for clearance. This issue can be resolved by removing the bottom pivot adjustment screws, loosening up the top track mounting screws, and moving the anchor/pivot.

A new set of roller guides can be an inexpensive solution to the problem of your bifold doors being difficult to operate. They are typically found at your local hardware store in the door section. However, they can be ordered online from several vendors. You will also need the squeeze-clamp and a tiny container of Elmer's wood adhesive which can be found in large box stores. The clamp helps to hold the repair area tightly closed after the glue has been inserted and allowed to dry.
