It features a table the same size as a billiards table but with less cushioning on the rails and pockets set at the corners and midpoints of the longer edges. Angled rails of hardened rubber or synthetic rubber, known as cushions, rim the inner edge of the table. The traditional mahogany billiards table is still in use, but tables are now generally made of other woods and synthetic materials. The cue is a tapered rod of polished wood or synthetic material, ranging in length from about 40 to 60 inches (100 to 150 cm). The most typically sold sizes of pool tables range from 7 feet to 9 feet in length. The other principal games are played on tables that have six pockets, one at each corner and one in each of the long sides; these games include English billiards, played with three balls; snooker, played with 21 balls and a cue ball; and pocket billiards, or pool, played with 15 balls and a cue ball. Pool is a common nickname for the game pocket billiards.

This page contains prototypes of games that are experiments in game design. The first step toward learning to defeat locks is a thorough understanding of how they work, where their security comes from, and how their design and manufacture introduces potentially exploitable vulnerabilities. Special double-sided jiggle-rake picks are commercially available for such locks. The first case is billiards, and we’ll consider a completely idealised billiard table: completely smooth, flat and rigid, completely round balls with completely known properties (so how elastic they are etc), and the same for the cushions. Winning requires putting more balls into pockets or completing a colored set before the opponent. Vertical orientation requires a 90 degree twist in the blade. While the pin tumbler cylinder is by far the most popular door locking mechanism in the United States, it is not the only kind of keyed lock in common use. Apply light torque while pivoting a long, wavy rake inside the lock, inserting and removing it slightly as you go. Reset the lock by returning the plug to the vertical locked position and try again but with torque applied in the other direction. Now someone makes a shot, and we either know the direction and force exactly or are allowed to measure the cue ball’s position and velocity exactly shortly after the shot. However, you can easily differentiate them by looking at the table and the ball’s numbers. Here, however, tighter tolerances and, in some cases, high-security secondary mechanisms, what is billiards are more common. Pool is a common name for pocket billiards and is found in many American sports bars and recreational halls. It is most common in traditional billiards to use only three balls.

Now we want to predict this system forwards and we’ll use the same criterion for failure: when some particle leaves a collision 90 degrees out from where we predict. Now we want to predict where the balls go, and we’ll say that the prediction fails when a ball leaves a collision 90 degrees from where we predicted - it’s obvious that after that point we can’t usefully predict anything. Any ball on the table can be pocketed, and each ball pocketed successfully earns the player one point. There are 18 balls in this game and one white cue ball, which is the only ball the cue ever contacts. Note that while many locks pick predominantly back to front or front to back, there are exceptions, and you may find that the binding pin stack "jumps around" from the back to the front to the middle and so on. As a general rule, locks mounted on the left side of a door open clockwise, while locks on the right side of a door open counterclockwise.
