Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot

Slots are the same for every spin. You won't find any tricks to aid you in beating them. There are a few tips you can follow to increase your chances of winning.

First, you should check a game's RTP. This statistic tells you how many players are likely to win over the long term.

Slot Efficiency

The goal of slot efficiency is of maximising the amount of slot switches that can be used while avoiding the violation of the constraints that are predefined. These constraints include, for example the minimal operational delay (usually expressed as scheduling delays) fairness, equity, access, competition, environmental objectives and more. The process of allocation of slots is a complex one and optimizing it to reach the desired performance metrics requires careful analysis of all the factors involved.

In general, the process starts with the identification of the kinds of requests that need to be prioritized based on established precedents. Once the type of request is identified the slot allocation model is employed to minimize the required delay criterion. However, numerous research gaps have been identified related to the optimization of slot scheduling models, particularly when the balance between fairness and efficiency is being maintained.

A popular slots method of prioritizing slot assignments is the ABC (assigned by velocity) strategy, which collects information about the history of items and then determines a velocity group. However, they'll have to improve their scoring on the perimeter to maintain their top-of-the-line performance.

Speedy wideouts are the main benefit of moving into the slot, as they typically have a much easier time getting open downfield when their route isn't covered by a linebacker or cornerback. The only non-speedy wide receiver on the list who can benefit from slot work is Corey Coleman, as he's an extremely reliable target on short and intermediate routes.

The bottom of the list includes more possession-based receivers who are better on short and intermediate routes than deep ones, such as Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Jeudy, who will be the Rams main slot receiver this year, is a sleeper pick. Courtland Cooper and Amari Sutton are expected to play a larger role in downfield targets. Hamler is expected to excel on shorter-to-mid and intermediate routes, as this is where he was at his best when playing for the Bills in 2021. He could be a great replacement for the departed wideout Jordan Matthews in Buffalo.

Percentage of Snaps in the Slot

The percentage of snaps a receiver takes in the slot is an excellent indicator of their ability to run deep routes. It is not always an accurate reflection of a receiver’s skill set, as certain receivers excel in the slot, but they can't play deeper.

For example, the Eagles' Alshon Jeffery leads the league in targets per game (4.8) however, he is sixth in the slot receiving score (58.5). This is due to the fact that the majority of his targets come from outside and it's difficult to get a first down in an open, deep route.

Certain receivers are better playing inside, while others struggle on the outside. Robby Anderson, for instance was given 978 snaps by the Panthers this season. He logged 74% of his route in the slot, compared to just 26% on boundaries routes. That's a huge difference, and shows how much more productive he is when aligned in the slot.

Chris Godwin, a Buccaneers player, is in the middle of the field most of the time on his passing downs. He is among the top five slot receiving scores (58.5). He also played 51% of his perimeter routes and is an expert in one-on-1 coverage.

Speed receivers are more effective when they line up inside. They are able to be targeted further down the field and are often swarmed by one-on-one coverage. This is why you'll find names like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Amari Cooper on the top five spots of our list.

McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks also belong to this group. McDuffie leads the NFL in forced fumbles, with seven, and Moore has the best tackle-stop performance (-3.5) on this list. Spagnuolo maximized McDuffie's skills by putting his slot for nickel and dime packages and then moving him to the outside when playing base defense. In addition, Moore's ability to stop big run plays has been a tremendous advantage when playing in the slot.

Percentage of Snaps Outside

While the NFL's top receivers like Baldwin, Golden Tate and Larry Fitzgerald excel on the perimeter, it's also worth noting that their slot counterparts are equally good. Wide receivers with a high slot grade have touchdowns that are about the same as those on the outside. This is mainly because quarterbacks are more consistent with their target distribution when they throw to slot and outside wide receivers rather than other inside options such as backfield passers and tight ends.

It's interesting to see a receiver like CeeDee lamb on this list for 2022. He plays the slot in 3 WR sets, and flanker in 2 of the sets. He's actually running more routes in the slot than many of the players listed on this chart. This is a great way to create matchup benefits for your team and clarify why Lamb ranks as the highest-graded slot receiver in our system this season.

Of course, he plays the X position and makes huge plays on the perimeter as well. Lamb isn't nearly as explosive as the other players in this ranking, but he's still an extremely high-quality receiver and is a great match for the Cowboys scheme.

Mecole Hardman, a different player who puts huge numbers with both types of targets is a different example. He has a high slot receiver grade and is among the best players in the league at catching back-shoulder throws, but he's also a great player for contested-catch.

Jalen Hilton is another player who is a slot specialist. He's lined up in this position on 85.7 percent of his defensive plays so far this season. He has the third-lowest EPA for targets and the fifth-best EPA for runs stopped among cornerbacks in the slot. This makes him a valuable member of his team's defensive line. On the other hand, he's struggled to block passes from the outside and has given the negative EPA against these kinds of targets. This is due to him playing with safety and linebackers who cannot compete with Hilton's speed, size, and ability to run routes.
