iRobot Vacuum and Mop Combo Review

IRobot's latest Combo j7+ is the company's first combinator vacuum and mop robot. It looks like the Roomba, and has similar rug-avoiding intelligence. However the mop can be used with a greater range of cleaning solutions and are self-filling.

If you request it to mop using the iRobot Home voice assistant or app, a little robot arm will rise out of the base. The mops will only be activated when the robot senses it's on a hard floor, and they avoid drag across carpets and rugs.

Features

A robot vacuum mop combination can be a helpful device to keep floors clean, without having to rely on a broom or a Swiffer. It wipes away sticky messes and helps keep dirt at bay, meaning you don't need to worry about the mess that builds in areas with high traffic levels like kitchens or mudrooms. It also does a better job of cleaning hard floors than vacuums alone and can do so completely automatically.

Most irobot vacuum/mop combos can be used on carpets and hard floors, so they're an excellent choice if your home has different flooring kinds. The top models come with features that let you decide how often the robot cleans and how powerful it is. Some models also have automatic emptying and can be controlled with voice.

IRobot's most adored robot vacuum and mop combination is the J7 Combo+, which transforms into a fully-featured robot cleaner at the touch of a button. It comes with the same sophisticated obstacle-avoidance technology as the j7 and also a the latest onboard acoustic sensors to determine the type of flooring. The mop only goes over hard flooring like tile or wood when it is in mop mode. It will not go over carpeting. I've tried a few times to trick the j7 Combo+ into going over carpet, but it always backed up and then returned to where it was.

It's slow to pick up fine particles of dust that a vacuum might be unable to, but it's excellent at removing dried milk stains. It also has a convenient mopping pad that's easy refill.

The j7 Combo+ is slightly cheaper than other robot vacuums and mop combos, but is still quite expensive for a basic model. It's limited in battery capacity and life, so it must return to the dock to recharge between cleaning sessions. It is also necessary to manually move the machine to a new room for each cleaning session. Its small size and the absence of an option to schedule it means that it can only clean 200 square feet.

Design

The app lets you schedule and track cleaning tasks as well as to create "clean zones" and "keep out zones". You can control the robots via the app or by voice activation with the smart speaker of your choice. Many robots have different modes of operation and some can even detect obstacles for navigation.

It is the first robot combo that is capable of both vacuuming and mopping all types of floors which makes it a great option for those with floors that are a mix of hard and soft floors.

The Combo j7+ looks similar to the regular Roomba J7 robot vacuum. It has a a sleek black plastic body and brushed aluminum top piece that bears the iRobot logo. The reservoir for water is located in the back, and the mop pad is tacked to the bottom of the unit. The app informs you when the tank has to be emptied or filled.

The Combo j9+ can be connected to the Wi-Fi network in your home and has onboard sensors to help navigate and avoid obstacles. It collects usage information like how often the Combo j9+ moves around your home, as well as images and mapping data. However it does not sell or share this data with third parties without consent. Cleaning Performance

A robot vacuum and mop combination can help you save time by keeping your floors spotless most of the time. If you want to be completely hands-free you'll need a robot vacuum cleaner that can understand the layout of your home and navigate between rooms on its own (our upgrade choice is the iRobot Jet m6), or a combination vacuum which uses lidar for navigation (like the Roborock S5 Max). You may also need to set up "clean zones" and "keep-out zones in the app so that it can recognize the location of furniture.

Cost

A robot irobot roomba vacuum that is also a mop does a good job of cleaning your floors. It is more expensive than a stand-alone robot vacuum or a dedicated mop. The price will depend on whether you'd like a top-quality model that incorporates mapping technology that allows it to learn your home's layout and then clean the space without running out of battery power. This feature is a must-have for those who have rugs and carpets in your home, and the newer Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni or Roborock S8 Pro Ultra are the best models with this capability.

Another thing to take into consideration is the dimensions of your floors and the amount of rooms you'll have to mop and vacuum. Smaller rooms will require the use of a smaller robot. You might be able make do with a device that vacuums or mops but not both. iRobot Combo j7+, for instance is a great option that comes with a dedicated mop for robots with its highly rated Roomba, and is priced at less than what a standalone mop such as the Braava jet M6 costs.

The Combo j7 Plus also includes the iRobot Clean Station, which auto-empties the dirty mop water from the tank for cleaning when it's full. The base isn't included in the standard j7 model, and must be purchased separately, which partly explains the combo robot's price of $1,099.

The j7+'s design is modern and sleek and looks nearly like the fad Roomba i7 vacuum. This is what makes it such an attractive choice for vacuum-mop hybrids. However, it lacks some key features other mop-only robots have. It doesn't offer the same powerful suction of 8,300Pa like irobot self empty base vacuums. It does not come with the automatic mop pad washing feature, which is becoming more commonplace in premium mop robots. However, you can buy an add-on to the j7+ that will wash the mop pad if you're not using it. This will stop the pads from drying and becoming dirty. Aside from that, the J7+ is a fantastic value and one of the best robots to clean your floors.
