The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A quality robot vacuum can make a huge difference in keeping allergens like pet hair and dust under control. However, not all models are identical.

Whether you're looking for an animal-friendly best vacuum mop for pet hair or just a great robot to complement your existing vacuum, there's many options.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge is the newest model in Eufy's best budget robot vacuum for pet hair line robot vacuum cleaners. It's a glossy black model with rose-gold and blue accents that resemble an iPhone. It's easier to use than the previous models and comes with features like BoostIQ that automatically boosts suction power to ensure better cleaning on all surfaces. Smart navigation can be used to avoid the repetition of the same areas, which is common when using bounce-navigation.

It does a good job cleaning pet hair, crumbs and dust from hard floors, but it is not as efficient as the top models in terms of removing flour from carpet. In our tests, it missed 74% of the dust on hard floors, and 26% on carpet.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map out your home with an electronic map. This lets it keep track of the rooms it has cleaned previously and prevents it from returning to those areas which is a major issue with simpler robots that require the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to delineate no-go zones.

The G30 Edge also has other conveniences. It comes with a "Find My Robot" mode that plays loud music until it is found and a directional keyboard that lets you move the robot. It also comes with an auto return function that sends it back to its charging base when the battery is depleted, an important security feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D shape is an impressively capable robot with a number of smart features. It can clean floors with ease and climb up high-pile carpets easily. The app also offers advanced features such as boundary lines remote control access when the robot is in operation, and a range of other options.

This model is the newest in a long-running series of Neato robots. It is unique because it has a "D' shape when viewed above. This design comes with a variety of advantages that include improved corner cleaning and a larger dust bin than other models. The D-shape also enables the robot to access furniture better than those with a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly stop before beginning a cleaning cycle to use spinning infrared to look over and evaluate the area. Then it will begin to work in a grid, systematically moving from one area to the next until the entire floor is covered. This method of cleaning is much more efficient and thorough than the random approach employed by some competitors.

The d-shape design also allows the D-Shape's large dust bin, with 700ml compared to 400 to 600ml for similar-priced robots. This capacity increase will help you save time and effort by decreasing the frequency of emptying the bin. The D-Shape also has a flat front that helps it get over obstacles like chairs and tables. In our tests, the D-Shape did get stuck under a four-legged stool and an electrical cord that was not covered but it was able to break free each time.

3. Roomba i3+ EV

The Roomba EVO i3+ is an excellent option for pet owners. It is a great choice for hard floors, and does a great job of removing dirt such as pet hair, cereal, rice and other small particles. It struggles a little bit on carpet, but is better than most robots in this price range. The Roomba EVO is also efficient in moving between floor types. It doesn't stall on transitions as older models. The dual multi-surface rubber brushes can adapt to different flooring types and prevent tangling in pet hair.

The i3+ EVO's obstacle-avoiding capability isn't as strong as some of the other robots we tested, and it repeatedably encountered objects during our tests, such as handbags, shoes, and pet toys before continuing its journey. It also had difficulty dealing with coarse kosher salt that it blew over and around rather than picking up.

The i3+ EVO comes with a host of features that make it well worth the cost over other Roomba models. These include the ability to self-empty the bin and more advanced control with an app. You can schedule cleanings and create custom routines. You can also designate no-go zones to prevent the robot from entering certain areas. Its smart scheduling can even suggest additional cleanings during peak allergy times and based on your regular routine. Its navigational system is somewhat unstable however, and sometimes cleans in irregular lines like diagonals or zigzags, rather than parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty XL

This smart robot is able to trace your home's layout in detail and better than you. It also has two brushes that can be adjusted to different floor types and avoid getting caught, making it the ideal choice for homes with pets. The app allows you to control the robot or use it with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. And the dock, dubbed Omni, automates tasks such as refilling and cleaning the robot's water tank, emptying the debris bin, and charging and drying mop pads.

It's a great value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL offers numerous advanced features, including self-emptying bins and mapping that can hold a lot of debris. It cleaned and maneuvered exceptionally well in a space with a mix of carpets with low pile or floors that were unfinished and a mix of both. The vacuum does a good job of picking up pet fur on carpeting. However, it doesn't have as much power as our top selections.

However the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, requires less time to recharge than the Shark and offers more automated and scheduling options, including support for zones that are not allowed to be used. We'd still recommend the Shark when you're looking to buy something cheaper or should you prefer to use your mobile phone to monitor and control your device instead of a dedicated remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Wet and Dry

This robot can do both vacuuming and mopping. The two-tank system of this robot lets it mop or vacuum with the push of a button. It easily transitioned between surfaces during our tests, and was able to excel at cleaning pet hair from both hardwood floors and carpets. It also features an edge-sweeping tool to clean cat hair along baseboards and walls, as well as scheduling capabilities to fit your schedule.

This robot is a great option if you're looking for a robot that is affordable and comes with additional features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease during our tests and is operated via an app or voice. It also supports scheduled cleaning and has a huge dust bin to catch messes before they become full. The only drawback is that it can take up to 166 minutes to finish its job, but that's still better than other robots we've evaluated.

The Roomba 694 is an elegant robot that can provide solid cleaning. It is very good at maneuvering and can fit under furniture at a low level without stumbling. It's also great for carpets and rugs with low pile. It is prone to getting stuck on rug tassels, and it has difficulty navigating small spaces such as corners. It also has trouble collecting pet hair from all surfaces.

Despite the 694's lack of features however, it still performs well than the majority of competitors. It scored a perfect 10 in our cereal carpet test and passed our test for cat litter with just a few stray pieces. It is less efficient on hardwood floors. The side brush scatters large cereal bits that cling to the floor instead of sweeping. It also had difficulty collecting table salt on unfinished floor, as lots of grains slid across the floor.

It does support app control through the iRobot HOME app, as well as voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, purchased separately). It learns about your cleaning habits and then creates personalized schedules. Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool will ensure that it can get into hard-to-reach places, while Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to areas that are soiled heavily. Its battery can last for around 60 minutes, and it comes with a self-emptying dustbin. The pricier iRobot J7 comes with an advanced suite of features and performs better on all surfaces. It also feels better constructed, has a larger dustbin it charges faster and can navigate obstacles such as electrical cords more easily.
