Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Eufy 11S is one the most affordable self-emptying robot vacuums that are available. It was able to efficiently remove dry Oats from hard floors as well as low-pile carpeting in our tests. Its dust bin is simple to open and empty -it's much simpler than some other models in the same price range.

It recharges at its base and then resumes cleaning when ready. However, its obstacle-avoidance technology gets tangled up in socks and cords, and it's unable to operate under low thresholds.

1. iRobot 11S

The 11S is one of the cheaper self-emptying robots available, and a lot of people seem to love it. It is good at scooting underneath furniture and is a great choice for those who have hard floors or for daily cleaning. The suction might be a little weaker than those of our top picks, but it gets the job completed. It comes with a huge dust bin and a durable battery. The app lets you schedule daily cleanings or choose a particular room. You can also create a map of your home to help the device avoid areas that you don't want it to visit.

The app is easy to use and has a simple layout. It's not a full-featured app however it's easy to use and allows you to keep track of the robot's activity. It also comes with an excellent tutorial that will provide you with the basics.

The cleaning pattern of Bounce Navigation isn't always logical. Sometimes it follows straight lines and other times it focuses on the edges of a space. But it is able to clean your entire floor. It's not the most adept at negotiating obstacles, though - it struggled to get under our piano pedals and pet food bowls, and was stuck in our 2.25-inch shag rug multiple times.

While it is a good option for light daily cleanings, we think there are better robot vacuums than the 11S. The iRobot Roomba 694 is better-built and is easier to maintain. It also incurs lower recurring costs and takes less time to charge. It has a bigger bin, is more effective on any type of surface and can scale obstacles that are low in elevation (like electrical cables) more easily.

The eufy RoboVac 11S is a different option for regular vacuuming. It shares a similar design to our top pick and is good in removing small particles and fine dust from hard flooring. It also does a decent job on medium and low-pile carpet. Like the Roomba by iRobot Roomba it also has a huge dirt compartment and uses BoostIQ to automatically adjust suction power. It has an easy-to-use remote control and you can set up daily cleanings with the app. Its battery lasts for about an hour, and the dustbin can be cleaned without taking it from the dock.

2. Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is an excellent robot vacuum and mop with a surprising array of features for automation. It is available in three models, the basic S7, the S7 MaxV Plus, robotvacuummops and the S7 MaxV Ultra. The S7 MaxV Ultra is the only model equipped with an Empty Wash Fillet Dock (or an alternate Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot to return to its base and empty the debris in a dust bag, or reservoir, empty the dirty water tank, and Robotvacuummops wash its mopping pads.

The S7's sensors work in tandem to avoid obstacles and clean the floors. It can recognize flooring types and save the map of rooms and robotvacuummops zones, and even detect dirt levels. It can also plan and conduct spot cleaning sessions. It did well in our tests, though it couldn't quite match the iRobot Roomba j7+ during the carpet deep clean test.

You can program the S7 using the companion app to run a cleaning routine in accordance with your schedule. You can select a cleaning mode, such as eco or automatic, and a weekday, day or even a time. You can also select whether the robot should stop if it is running out of energy or encounters an obstacle.

You can still use the S7 even if you don't have a smartphone by connecting the charging dock to a remote control. The remote controls are a little confusing, but once you've mastered the use of them they work well. The power button also functions as the 'Cleaning' option, and the Spot Clean button directs the robot to clean an area around itself. The 'Spot Clean" button also activates the child lock.

Roborock's mobile app has been improved to include a live view feature that lets you see what the S7 does at home. You can enable this feature by pressing a specific sequence of buttons on the S7 and creating an unlock pattern in the app to use any time you wish to check out what the robot is doing.

3. Shark IQ XL

Shark's robot vacuums aren't as popular as those from iRobot or Roborock. But our tests on the ground have proven that this model is among the most effective self-emptying vacuums available. It's easy to set up, comes with an enormous bin that's easy to empty (albeit somewhat loudly) into a trash can when it is full and can be programmed to do a complete home clean on a regular basis or as needed.

The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi and allows you to monitor it through the Shark app and see its battery level as it cleans. The app lets you set cleaning schedules, receive push notifications about its current status, it can pause and resume cleaning or set it to only one room. It can also be controlled by voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will inform the user which the current power mode is - Eco Normal, Maximum, or Normal - but we found that none of these modes made a noticeable difference in the cleaning performance.

After it has completed cleaning after which the IQ XL will automatically empty the dust bin into its base, which then self-empties. Its bin holds up to 60 days worth of trash and won't require emptying more frequently than that, unless you own several pets with hair that is long. If you have to empty it, you can simply remove the side container and place it over your trash can and press the button.

The Shark IQ XL is a great vacuum cleaner. It does a good job cleaning floors that are not bare and can maneuver itself well. However the Shark IQ XL feels a slightly less sturdy than the Roomba 694. It's effective of cleaning carpeted floors however, it isn't as efficient as the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to the performance of bare floors. The i7 also feels more durable, is more robust, requires less maintenance, incurs lower recurring cost, charges faster and has comparable battery performance. It also has more advanced automation features, such as no-go zones and the ability to choose specific rooms to be cleaned.

4. iRobot J7+

This robot vacuum and mop combination is a rare machine that can perform both tasks efficiently. iRobot Combo J7+ comes with all the smarts and features of its j7 counterpart, including LiDAR maps and self-emptying. However, it also has additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The new acoustic sensors help the j7+ recognize floor types, so it can decide between vacuuming and mopping during the first time it passes through the room. It also uses this info to prioritize cleaning rooms with carpets and rug flooring over rooms with hard floors.

The J7+ is more quiet than most robotic vacuums when it's in use and is even quieter when it's mopping. The maximum reading of 64db on our decibel scale is similar to office chatter.

You can easily set up an cleaning schedule and then change what happens when the dust canister is full. The j7+ is also able to be controlled using voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.).) to allow hands-free operation. the app allows you to create and view maps of your home.

In our tests, the j7+ performed admirably on carpeted and hard floors, and it cleaned up most of the dirt we threw at it. It isn't able to deal dealing with pet hair, large pieces of debris and sand. However, it is able to clean them with more effort. It also has decent navigation abilities and a pair of cliff sensors that stop it from falling down a flight of stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

The J7+ has some small flaws, namely that it could get stuck on cords or rugs and it doesn't always turn off the mopping function when it's finished vacuuming. In all other respects, it's an excellent model that checks all the right boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the best robot vacuum for pet hair self emptying self-emptying systems that we've tested. It deposits its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust container into the base station, where it will automatically empty itself for you. This reduces the amount of garbage you need to dispose of. You will only have to replace the dust disposal bag on the dock every 60 days, depending on the frequency you use the J7+.
