The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot vacuum can vacuum and mop your floors with no effort. It will also leave them spotless. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Make sure you regularly examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large particles, and wash them when needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin located at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic hoovers vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It did a good cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums with mop makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas are.

A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
