A robot vacuum is able to keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency you'll need to manually vacuum. Find one that has good navigation, can sweep corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that requires emptying only periodically.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great option for those who want an automated vacuum, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin once it gets full.

Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors and they're very adept at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart map of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested, the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends clearing areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes putting away any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum deals.

The Roomba I7+ is able to make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot via the app or by voice.

In our testing the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. After connecting we were able to give the i7+ voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, automatic vacuum cleaners the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households however, it can also fit in well next to the coffee table or the bookshelf, where you can move it around like the magic wand.

The V10 is powered by seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large particles and fine dust. The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is an average and not a remarkable run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is still enough to clean most of a typical-sized home but not long enough to get every single spot (though an additional run-through often will suffice). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is significantly superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums the 694 is an entry-level model that's a good choice for people who don't want to spend too much money on a robot vacuum cleaner ebay. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris and sizes in our tests and would often go over the same area many times to ensure a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top picks and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it frequently runs out of battery power before returning to its base.

It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and is more effective on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name that you see on all sorts of electronic gadgets for your home So it's no surprise that they're also one of the most reputable mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app gives you plenty of options to customize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than the other models we tried which could be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning area.
