1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ a good option for those looking for an entirely automated vacuum, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin as it gets full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're very adept at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It can be stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include getting rid of any toys or clutter it might encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid becoming clogged. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning where it started. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of constant usage. It takes three hours to charge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top rated Robot vacuum model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or via the app.

In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our runner-up which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin that eliminates a major cause of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to begin or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room cleaning robot and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After connecting to these services, we were able give the i7+ voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of cordless vacs that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in most homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a major improvement over earlier Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its short running time. The tests conducted by CR show that its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is an average, not an exceptional, time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. That's still enough run time to get rid of the majority of an average-sized house but not long enough to clean every area (though the second time around usually does the trick). However, this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to spend on an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges and walls, which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series.
