1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a good option for those looking for a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the dust bin after it has filled up.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they are very good at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we tested. It can get stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including clearing out any clutter or toys it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and takes about three hours to recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is its auto-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

The i7+ is quicker and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also removed large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room and vacuum a specific space. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households and can fit perfectly next to the coffee table or a bookshelf where you can wave it around like an enchanted wand.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task at hand. It could pick up most types of debris and sizes in our tests and would often go over the same area many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and often is power-depleted before making it back to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better able to move itself. It also has a larger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. It did not do well in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing.
