Evolution Korea

For a long time the scientific community in Korea has been hesitant to engage with creationists, afraid that it could increase the credibility of the movement. The silence is no longer an alternative.

The STR has been campaigning to get rid of textbooks that discuss evolution, 에볼루션 코리아 such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. This is only one aspect of how the concept of development has changed.

What is Evolution?

The theory of evolution is a scientific one that explains the change in the genetic traits of living organisms over time. The theory is based upon the fact that living creatures adapt to their environment, which could result in variations in genes or even whole genomes. These changes can over many generations lead to the creation of new species. Natural selection is the dominant theory of evolution. It explains how people with traits that are advantageous survive and reproduce more than those with less favorable traits. This differing reproduction may be a catalyst to the creation and evolution of new species.

The word "evolution" is derived from Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in many different ways as the concept has developed, both in science and in other fields. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that existing species evolved into new species in a certain way. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist student who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, challenged the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.

Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living creatures develop traits to increase their chances of living or conceiving offspring. Over time this genetic variation can cause the emergence of completely new biological functions or physical traits in the population. Natural selection is the main force behind the majority of evolutionary changes. However other changes that are not genetic, such as the growth in muscle mass from diet or exercise cannot be considered examples of evolution because they are not passed on to future generations.

Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial in spite of the fact that it has been proven accurate by thousands of scientific tests and 에볼루션 코리아 that it has stood the test of time. They claim that the theory should not be taught at school. It is crucial to keep in mind that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.

The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support vary. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions, such as developing medications or developing new medicines, while others are driven by an interest in improving the quality of life for animals and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have an intense belief in God.

What is Creationism?

Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians however, not all. Creationists are generally divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.

The YECs are the best known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe exactly as described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of six days of creation was literal and that the universe and the life on Earth were created just recently.

OECs are not as well-known however they are just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a myth.

Both kinds of creationism deny the scientific theories that biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life came to be on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it would require a miracle, and that the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also referred to as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." In this theory, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species that are similar to the original.

Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the original species were all created at the same time and that they evolved slowly afterwards. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.

In general, creationists are against teaching evolution at schools. This is supported by a myriad of professional associations, including the National Science Teachers Association, 에볼루션 바카라 the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions are, however, more flexible and allow both evolution and creationism to be included in their curriculum.

What is Creationism?

The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their editions. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, called the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on the removal of excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research as well as on human evolution as well.

STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its goal, it says, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also hopes to combat the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of biology students teachers revealed that around half do not believe in evolution. The causes are not clear, but could include religion or the absence of creation scientists in the US.

The KACR accomplished a number of things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and 에볼루션 사이트 has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. This sparked an interest in the college community. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.

On August 6 and 7 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. KACR and its members have given lectures on creation science in major seminaries as well. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
