BMW Ghost immobiliser ghost

The Ghost uses the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from putting in a new key or even replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a valid PIN code to start the engine.

The Ghost is unlike other immobilisers because it doesn't rely on key fobs or LED indicators. Instead, it uses the buttons in your vehicle to allow you to enter a specific disarm sequence that you only are aware of.

Stop & Start

If you've ever driven a BMW or used its stop-start feature you might have noticed that the engine continues to run for a period of 30 seconds after you have released the brake pedal. This is due to the BMW engine management system continuously monitoring your vehicle for an ignition key, and once it is detected, it will continue to run. Our BMW ghost immobiliser, a next-generation device, does not require you to cut OEM wires or to add keys or alarms that are made by an aftermarket company. It is connected to the BMW CAN data network, and is programmed with an unique PIN code that can be accessed by buttons in your car. This lets you enter the key sequences which aren't available in the normal menus for media. For instance the volume up/down button, or source controls, air conditioning, cruise control, etc. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 characters, making it very difficult for thieves to figure out.

We can also add the ability to use a service/valet feature. This is activated while your vehicle is being maintained so that the Ghost is hidden from the garage. You can activate this by pressing the service button five times on your infotainment system (the system will flash in confirmation) and the Ghost will automatically re-arm when you return.

Service Mode / Valet Mode

The Ghost is the most popular immobiliser on the market. It stops your vehicle from being taken by hacking or key cloning. It also lets you take the car to the garage for servicing etc without worrying about it being taken away or altered by a mechanic whilst you are waiting.

Once the valet or service mode is activated, it will block your BMW from being able to be driven once started, this prevents anyone from attempting to test drive it whilst you are away. Once you return, the vehicle will revert to normal and will not be tampered or stolen again.

Anti-Hijack

With high-tech thieves becoming more and more sophisticated, the technology in security systems has to change, that's why Ghost has created this subtle and discreet immobiliser. It is designed to stop thieves from putting in an ignition key or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and drive off. Ghost connects to your CAN data network and uses the buttons within your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create a unique push sequence that must be entered before the engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack mode and once active any attempt to start the engine will be blocked. The system will hone the horn and flash the indicators. It will also stop the vehicle when the code isn't found. By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can disable the Anti-Hijack feature. This allows your vehicle to be temporarily started without the need to enter a PIN.

If you own an GPS device that is connected to your BMW it can be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked and not being watched. If you own a smart-phone, you can also hook it up to your Ghost app to control the anti-hijack feature and other functions.

Remote Control

The system allows you to start the car by selecting drive and then leave the service mode without having to use your key fobs. The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard or within the centre console, it is completely hidden and tamperproof and doesn't require any extra wiring. The device is connected to the vehicle's CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personalised PIN code is embedded into it. This pin code has to be chosen prior to the engine's start. This stops thieves from using a copied key or replacing the ECU to get around this system.

If the vehicle is stolen in any way, the Ghost will enter a security mode and shut down all functions until the PIN code is entered, or you can use the mobile app to disable it. Ghost can also prevent 'Relay-style Frequency Amplification'.
