Saab Key Programming

Saab cars made since 1994 use an immobilizer system that relies on keys that are coded. To add an additional key, you need an entirely new transponder and programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.

This can be expensive. This is why you should always have a spare key on hand.

Transponder key

The transponder is a piece of key that has an electronic chip. This chip sends out a signal when the key is placed into the ignition. The car then checks the signal to determine if it matches the one on the key. If the signals are identical the car will be able to unlock itself and start. This is an excellent way to protect your car from theft.

Transponder keys are a favored feature in automobiles, however you should be aware they're not as secure as classic metal keys. While the metal component of a traditional key could be cut and copied however, a transponder is secured by an electronic chip. The chip is a unique code which is programmed into a car's computer order to identify it.

Jump-starting the battery

Most people keep an item in their trunk to start a car in an emergency, but it may not be a good idea for cars with more modern technology. These cars have a variety of computers and digital devices that communicate with each other. A voltage surge when the battery is connected to another battery could damage the components, rendering your car undriveable.

Start the working vehicle and let it run for about two minutes before you connect the cables to the one that is disabled.
