The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best rated robot vacuum robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
