UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time, the handles on your doors will wear down and require replacement. When doing this it is essential that the new handles are in line with the exact dimensions of the previous handle.

The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw's position, lever and key hole dimensions. Use the size guide to aid you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be used on new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in various styles and finishes. A number of manufacturers make this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

The upvc door handles/composite door handles (scientific-Programs.science) are constructed of durable materials and are suitable for multi point lock doors that require a heavy duty design. The handles are inline and work from the same spindle and screw fixings, so they can be easily incorporated into doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be positioned and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the quality of finish and performance over time. The sprung lever is also adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is especially useful in doors with smaller door frames where the cylinder is further back. A lever that is shorter is an excellent option for doors where the latch can be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle differs from the lever handles that are used on the majority of doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are usually utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing. They are available in a range of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC levers for handles include a spindle and screws and can be installed on a uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is often beneficial when replacing an old or damaged multi-point victorian door handle lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, which solves the issue of handles hanging out of their horizontal position when not in use.

It is essential to ensure that the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is often referred to as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect in ensuring that you have the correct handles.

After you have identified the correct PZ size it is important to make sure that the push and lever pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They are typically round or square, with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we sell are spring-loaded. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal state when they are not in use instead of hanging, and possibly being stuck in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from getting into a house. Also, the majority of UPVC lever pad handles are handed, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other types of doors. The cylinder lock is operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's casing. This exposes pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock, and permit them to turn the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is crucial. It's dependent on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for example should be equipped with higher security cylinders while internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, for instance, anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however, if this is not possible, you can remove it to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, therefore it is crucial that it's not too long.

The design of many modern cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a new direction. This will help to deflect an attack and protect your door.

There are also cylinders made to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which could make it difficult to prove insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is located in the base of the door handle backplate providing a sprung solution to return the multipoint lock handles back to their rest position after use. The handles had no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was disengaged. Adding this simple component is one of the most effective ways to fix this issue and is a great way to prevent your doors made of upvc door handles replacement from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specially made for use with sprung multipoint locks, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes in the backplates of door handles of many kinds of uPVC doors. They are sold as a single unit. They have a square-cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution to the problem of door handles that have become sagging. They are easy to fit and will prolong the life span of your uPVC doors.
