It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum mop cleaner robot/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot vacuum that vacuums and mops mop cleaners we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily.
