When I tested the S1 It was quick to locate our downstairs, which has Linoleum flooring in the kitchen/dining room and bathrooms, along with carpeting with a medium-pile and an area rug. It was able to drive close to walls without hitting them, and even managed to drive across thresholds for rooms that are raised without issue, though it occasionally struggled to get down stairs in a single step. The S1 also did a great job of cleaning hard floors by dragging its mop effortlessly on its flat side against the floor, and then lifting itself when it reached carpet or rugs.

Prior to each mopping session the docking station on the S1 automatically emptys its trash bin and refills its water tank with filtered, clean water ozonated. The dock also adds a cleaning solution to the water for deep cleaning. The S1's water tank holds enough water for around a dozen cleaning sessions before needing to be cleaned, although it will differ based on how often you use the mop.

Like all 2-in-1 robots the S1 requires periodic maintenance to ensure it is operating well. To do this, you'll need to wash the dirty water tank occasionally to avoid it from clogging. Also, you'll need to clean your swivel wheel and sensors regularly to prevent them from getting clogged up with dust or dirt. However, overall, the S1 is simple to maintain, particularly compared to other combinations that require more hands-on maintenance.

2. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo Complete

This all-in-1 robot vacuum and mop combo from Ecovacs is a great choice to meet your cleaning needs. The Ecovacs robot vacuum has 8,700Pa of suction, and comes with numerous unique features, including full home mapping, voice control and smart path-planning to avoid obstructions and cleans furniture. The mopping capabilities of the robot are impressive. Rotating mops actually lift the floor and scrub it, rather than just dragging a pad across the surface. The mops are also cleaned and dried in the base station when required.

This robot has a simple interface that guides you throughout the process. It comes with an electric hand vacuum that can be recharged for those areas that the robot can't reach, as well as two water tanks that are automatically emptied and replenished when required. It also has a number of useful settings for fine-tuning your cleaning robot mop and vacuum preferences.

The Deebot X2 Combo Complete does excellent job of vacuuming, with a strong suction that easily removes all kinds of debris, including the tiny dust particles that other robots struggle with. Its navigation capabilities are decent, but it can be stuck on small area mats and rugs at my home (which you can alleviate by defining virtual boundaries in the app). The mopping capabilities are quite impressive, and comes with a pair of spin mop heads that actually lift and scrub the floors, as opposed to simply dragging the pad across it. The mops are cleaned with heated water and dried in the base station as required. The mops are also filled at the top of the station as required.

3. Dreame X40 Ultra

Dreame launched the high-end X30 Ultra earlier this year and their new flagship robot mop and vacuum has more impressive features. It is a great cleaner, and it is easy to maintain. Its superior mapping capabilities, RGB AI smart recognition and a longer side brush will give you an efficient, customized clean.

The X40 Ultra does an excellent job of vacuuming, picking up large and fine particles from hard floors as well as carpets. It was able to clean the dirtiest areas of our tests efficiently while avoiding pet hairs and other messes. K10 Plus is one of the most quiet robovacs that we have tested. It also uses a unique system to map your home. This will allow it to enter places that other vacuums can't reach. This device also is able to collect more dust in the larger bin, meaning that you don't need to empty it as frequently. It also has washable filters, which further reduces costs.
