However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good robot vacuum choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals.
