It's also flaky when it comes to navigating its way back to the charging station after a run -- other robots can trace a previous path or follow a wall around until they get to their home however, the RX3 is a fumbler until it gives up and then sends a message about failure to your phone.

Another issue we faced was with its smart features, particularly the mapping function and the digital keep-out zones. While it did a great job of keeping away from our shoes and furniture legs but it could easily be caught by cables and socks and was unable to handle the tassels of rug. We didn't include the Scout RX3 in our best robot cleaner Buy list. However, with a reasonable price tag and impressive performance, the Scout RX3 is worth considering if you're looking for a smarter alternative to the traditional uprights.
