The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as a dirt detectors) are both positives.

Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot hoover and mop vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot auto vacuum and mop and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes.
