World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This is the sum of all of its leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's a good indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of causing. The item level upgrade level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a few theories on how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. One theory says that the level of an item is calculated using formulas that determine the worth of the stats of an item really are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item upgrading for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could be used to give the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the Upgrade item window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item upgrader mod, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more valuable in the early game as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be purchased from the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an Best item upgrade. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
