Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading the performance of them. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item that they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using an expert or higher salvage kits to recover upgrades from the items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to absorb. Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will increase its ability to absorb damage. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be heavier.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades available in the game and they all have different effects. Certain upgrades grant armor an extra number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item will receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as indicated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees in order to be used. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest option to improve your armor. It can be found by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant boost in stats, and are definitely worth the investment.

Upgrading a piece of armor to its maximum upgrade level will significantly boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will drastically reduce its agility and speed. For this reason, it is not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces that are higher than +9 because the increase in defense is typically not worth the additional weight and power costs of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. For instance, an upgrade may enhance the damage caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of the rifle that snipes. Certain weapons also come with enhancements that enhance their intrinsic capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes the risk of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.

Most upgrades for weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade to apply. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests or killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price of a set number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars required to complete it. The cost of upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. In the past you could go to an upgrade items Bench and pay a certain amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher rarity. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level at which point the upgrades would reset.

You can still do this but the process is based on RNG and low on agency. You're better off buying gear with low upgrade levels and high base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a better likelihood of granting you highest level of advantages and benefits.

Most players will want to make the most of upgrades to weapons they are most likely to use to help them level up quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to improve the stats of a character or to provide additional effects in weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, where you combine gemstones with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the quality of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The quality of a diamond can be improved at the Jeweler, with stages that vary from Crude to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem it will give different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create all tiers of gems, except for the rare and legendary ones which you must attain a certain level to get. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without damaging the original. However, you can only replace one jewel in an equipment piece once.

The use of more jewels in a movement will make it feel smoother and is typically done for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels also create a surface that is harder than metal, so repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be swapped, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis, cannot be swapped out, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to give your character various small, but useful, advantages. They are available in the starting area as loot or personal story rewards. They are also available through vendors and after completing road interaction. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but beneficial boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. After that, they'll be able to acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in a similar way to how a player acquires armor and weapons. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.

These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This lets the hero be more effective when not active and also helps to compensate for the absence of a solid team or any talent tree slots which would normally be filled with the hero's ideal stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing in the near future, then any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader kit being upgraded. This is especially true if you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item upgrader kit. It is Best item upgrade to upgrade just one crucial stat than two less important ones.

At the beginning of the game junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red in the middle and top players typically choose either a pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players can discover a variety of other trinkets in the game in the form of trophies and awards. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or defeating the boss. They can be viewed by selecting the relevant achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
