Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They boost the effectiveness of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades are found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using a professional or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrades from the items.

The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of a piece armor will increase when it's upgraded to the highest upgrade level. But, it's important to note that this will also increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than it was before.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have different effects. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional number of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item upgrading will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades require charges to use. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the environment and looting minor loot chests. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense typically isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For instance, an upgrade may improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent characteristics. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the velocity of projectiles for greater damage).

The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by finishing side quests, killing a certain amount of monsters or bosses, or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price of a certain number of Bars. Jewels

All tiers of jewels can be made at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a certain level to be able to get the privilege of having them. Jewels can be substituted with another jewel without destroying the original. However, you can only replace a jewel in an equipment piece only once.

Utilizing more jewels in a move will make it more smooth, and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels also improve performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. Trinkets

Trinkets are pieces of equipment that offer a wide range of small but useful benefits to your hero. You can find them in the starting area as loot or as personal story rewards. They can also be obtained from vendors as well as through the completion of road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinket that a player can unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny, but useful bonus in speed of movement and the ability to evade. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero is not in combat. This enables the hero to perform better when they are not active, and can also help to compensate for the absence of a strong team or the absence of any slots from the talent tree which would normally be filled with the hero's best statistics.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace soon. Next, any items with desirable statistics that aren't as significant as the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is true especially if you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It is more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the beginning of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, based on the matchup. These choices will have an impact on a hero's ability to control the map.

In addition to the items listed above, players will also find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game.
