WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrading by 3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

Crests

This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
