However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum reviews uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
