How to Replace an Audi A1 keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

holding-car-keys-woman-in-formal-clothes-is-indoo-2021-12-27-15-52-03-utc-min-scaled.jpgIn this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine with no sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero Ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car key replacement audi will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector Replace Audi key timing, etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is going bad and requires replacement audi key cost uk. They're cheap and easy to find particularly when they're a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi tt key programming because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This part is common across the audi car key case 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
