Path of Exile Item Upgrades

item upgrades (you can try Dermandar) are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of extra damage and more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kit to recover upgrade components from items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it should be heavier.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have distinct effects. Certain upgrades grant armor an extra amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade the item upgrade can be given, as illustrated below.

Some upgrades are magic or a hybrid of technology and magic which is identified by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).

Jewels

The Jeweler can craft the highest levels of gems with the exception of rare and legendary ones that you must attain certain levels to gain. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped by a different identical jewel without damaging the original one. However, you can only replace one jewel in a piece of equipment once.

Using more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother, and is often done for aesthetic reasons. Jewels also enhance performance and make a surface harder than metal so that repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to the movement.

In addition to the above upgrades, the player can also obtain glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These are a small perk and are able to be swapped easily but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis are not swappable, and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade item slot that can accept either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant buffs and skills that are active whenever the hero is not in combat. This lets the hero be more effective while inactive and may also help to compensate for the absence of a strong team or the absence of any talent tree slots that would normally be filled with the hero's ideal statistics.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best item upgrade in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace in the near future.
