Both robots do well picking up surface debris off hard floors and carpets, and they are very good at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart map of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other Top Rated Robot Vacuum-rated robots that we tested. It can get stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it may encounter. You should also keep the filters and dust bin clear to avoid getting blocked. When the i3+'s internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted it will return to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin and continues cleaning where it began. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes 3 hours to charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot and is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint smart robot Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can direct your robot using the app or via voice.

In our testing the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our runner-up which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin which removes a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and move around the room, and even vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car that is amidst a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households and can fit in well next to a coffee table or on a bookshelf that you can spin around like a magic device.

The V10 is powered by seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries that produces power without fading for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and the clip for a wand. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a common battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to vacuum the majority of an average-sized house, but not quite long enough to cover every spot (though a second run-through usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our testing, and it often goes over the same areas many times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top selections, the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation abilities and is better able to maneuver itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of reasons, since it has a better battery life, the ability to change the suction power mode by hand and comes with physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and is more effective on floors with low pile and bare.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it.
