Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from hard floors and carpets, and they're excellent in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities and therefore it could be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clean up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it may encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes three hours to fully charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum cleaner top 10 vacuum.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large particles and fine dust. It has three suction modes to meet the task that is being completed. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back again.

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and the wand clip. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a common battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home but not long enough to get every single area (though a second run-through usually does the trick). However, this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area many times for a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and j7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently runs out of battery power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at maneuvering itself. It also feels more sturdy and has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on both bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a greater variety of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name is seen on a variety of electronic gadgets for your home, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the top robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior customization, docking frequency settings, and much more. The app is easy to use and understand, just like other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. However, it did not do particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than the other models we tested, which might be a deal-breaker for certain shoppers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible via the app, and you can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station.
