Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the best ways to upgrade your gear without relying on large-ticket drops or trade. This article will help you understand how to upgrade your gear.

Upgrades to equipment give an additional bonus to the item's stats. This bonus scales with the upgrade component's level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the items that make your weapons and armor more effective. You can get them from the destruction of enemies, finding them in spheres of items or buying them from karma dealers. You can also salvage them from equipment containing the components or by using salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Contrary to other products, upgrade components are not destroyed when they are removed from an item.

Upgrade components are mostly used to upgrade an item, however, they can also be used for other purposes. They can be used to increase the level of experience gained by upgrading existing equipment or weapons. They can be made for extra bonuses. A crafted glyph can increase the chance of upgrading its target, and a boost upgrade increases the attack or defense attributes of weapons.

You can bind an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will show the list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either scenario the item upgrader kit will be upgraded once enough upgrade components are collected.

Each component is assigned an experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item gains when upgraded using the component. Organic components, for example have an increased multiplier of experience than mechanical components. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade with organic components until you reach the experience multiplier for the next rank of the weapon or gear, and then move to mechanical upgrades.

In addition to the multiplier of experience every item also has the maximum number of upgrades that it can receive. The number of items that are upgradeable is determined by their upgradeable rank and the kind of upgrade they can get. For instance, the highest possible upgrade for a weapon is a weapon of tier 10. However, the most common upgrades for weapons are the tier 6 weapon and a tier 5 armor upgrade.

Sets

A set is a collection of objects that all share the same bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least one time, and each upgrade boosts the amount of bonuses that are guaranteed. The first time you upgrade an item, its primary stat will be +1. After subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be boosted a bit further (for example, +1 up to 12+/13+/14+) Each time you upgrade the item, one of its extra stats is boosted randomly.

Upgrades to a weapon may increase the damage base, which could be necessary for certain builds. However, weapons are not upgraded to a higher defense level than their base. These are available at the crafting table or the Ultra Collector and can be purchased using Gold. The NPC will also offer a special reward for every tier that is completed of the upgrade process. This reward is rerollable once, and the reroll will be made using the same materials as the original item.

Rerolling

If a player has enough rerolling tokens, they can reroll any item that they've acquired during the game. If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced by the same level in another set. The new upgraded item will still come with the extra bonuses of the original one however its stats will differ too.
