WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The Item level upgrade upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less even if they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader mod upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade items the item in the proper steps and paths.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to make. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
