WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrades upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which displays a preview of the item at the next upgrade items level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item upgrading slot, and the current level of the item level upgrade. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item upgrade level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
