WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the Item level Upgrade. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item upgrader mod for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
