As a newly promoted team, Malut United has undergone a major squad overhaul to compete in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. Malut United made some intriguing moves in the transfer market. Rising star Yakob Sayuri, who was previously with PSM Makassar, was signed after his contract ended. Alongside Yakob Sayuri, Yance Sayuri was also recruited by Malut United. The Sayuri brothers have consistently played for the same club. In addition to local players, Malut United has revamped its foreign player roster. New foreign recruits include Adriano Castanheira, Diego Martinez, and Cassio Scheid, all of whom are new to Indonesian football. Unlike the players, Malut United has retained two crucial figures in the coaching staff. Imran Nahumarury (head coach) and Resal Octavian (assistant coach) remain for the 2024/2025 season. However, the coaching team has seen some interesting additions. Former players Dedy Gusmawan, Aditya Putra Dewa, and Joko Ribowo will begin their debut season as coaches. These three were instrumental in helping Malut United earn promotion from Liga 2 to BRI Liga 1 last season.

PSIS Semarang has undergone significant changes ahead of the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season, with many key players moving on. Two crucial local defenders, Fredyan Wahyu and Wahyu Prasetyo, have transferred to Malut United. They follow in the footsteps of Hari Nur Yulianto, who made the same move last season. PSIS Semarang also lost a vital foreign player, Taisei Marukawa, who transferred to Dewa United. PSIS cited foreign player regulations as a reason for Marukawa’s departure. However, PSIS has made new signings to strengthen the squad, including Zalnando, who was loaned from Persib Bandung. Young talents Aulia Rahman (17 years old) and Rahmat Syawal (18 years old) are also expected to make an impact. Persija Jakarta started their BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season with a commanding display. They defeated Barito Putera 3-0 in their Week 1 match at Jakarta International Stadium on Saturday (August 10, 2024). Gustavo Almeida shone brightly, netting a hat-trick with one goal in the first half and two more in the second. With this win, Persija joins Persib Bandung and PSM Makassar at the top of the standings, all having achieved big wins.

The top-tier competition in Indonesia runs from August 9, 2024, to May 25, 2025. The second matchday of Liga 1 took place on Friday (23/08/2024) evening WIB, featuring a clash between Persebaya Surabaya and Barito Putera. This intense match ended dramatically with Persebaya winning 2-1 thanks to a late goal by Mohammed Rashid. As a result, Persebaya now sits at the top of the Liga 1 2024/2025 standings with seven points from three matches. Meanwhile, Barito is in 10th place with only three points. On Saturday (24/08/2024), two games are scheduled: Madura United vs Persita in the afternoon and Persija vs Persis in the evening.

Foreign coaches continue to dominate BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. A total of 14 clubs have employed foreign coaches. Well-known names like Stefano Cugura, Milomir Seslija, and Bernardo Tavares remain in the mix. However, there are also new faces entering the competition. Four foreign coaches making their debut in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 are Juan Esnaider, Joel Cornelli, Carlos Pena, and Wagner Lopes. Carlos Pena will be under the spotlight as he replaces Thomas Doll, a popular figure among Persija Jakarta fans. If Carlos Pena does not achieve good results early in the season, he will face significant pressure.
