WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item level upgrade (like it) by +3. A random substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same Best item upgrade from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display a preview of the Best item upgrader at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item upgrade. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is even if those items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrader equipment you have and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
