WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrades by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item upgrade's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item upgrading slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Crests

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
