World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will be able to gain 3percent of its previous damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the current level of the item upgrader mod. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them from the cash shop or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player can have up to five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the item upgrader will appear during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of how much it will increase after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it is likely that the item will become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the risk of failure. Some upgrades also offer a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the effectiveness of all nodes in a radius around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we suggest getting them to level 15 whenever you can.

It is commonplace to see in the final game that placing Glyphs is the best way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes more quickly.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values that it can improve a statistic by. The value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph with the same rank or a higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

The upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do so. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have an initial level and a different set of bonuses. This is a good option for certain items, however it's not something that should be repeated often, as it could waste lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and allows the player to modify their gear. If an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest. The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and upgrade slot count. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a typical equipment item might have 5 upgrades with a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero quality items will have the lowest cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items could have different upgrade requirements than normal equipment. For example they may require fewer sowels, but more minerals and orons.
