How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

If your bifold door roller replacement doors have become stuck, they probably require a little attention. They may require cleaning, lubricated or adjusted. The problem could be caused by a loose bolt on the top pivot or by the top guide roller.

Take the door off

Installing an internal set of bifold doors could seem like a complex and challenging task but it's actually simple for anyone with a bit of experience. Getting the frame into position isn't a major issue; the tricky part is getting the doors to fold and close smoothly and precisely. Since bifold door roller replacement doors are complicated machines, they may need some 'tuning' to continue working properly. It could be as easy as tightening up a screw, or as intricate as removing and replacing the pivot pin or roller.

The majority of the time you can fix these issues with a few simple adjustments, without having to remove the doors. You may notice that your doors are sliding or scratching the floor, or they are bouncing off of their track. The solution to these issues isn't difficult, and with three easy steps your bifold doors can be back in the blink of an eye.

One of the most frequent issues that internal bifold doors face is that they are sliding out of alignment. This could be due to loose screws, holes in the anchor/pivots or a misaligned bifold door. Most times, this can be corrected with a few simple adjustments. If, however, your door doesn't move at all, you may have to replace it.

You'll need to open the door using a screwdriver, and possibly a pair pliers to loosen any pivot pins that are too tight. The screwdriver can be used to loosen the locking levers located on the bottom pivot bracket. The pliers are used to remove the pin.

It is usually a simple process, but you must be careful to not let the door hit the door frame. Remove the Roller Guide

Remove any screws that hold the roller guide in place using a screwdriver. After that, carefully use your hands to remove it of the frame. It could take some effort to remove the door, so make sure you ask someone else to assist you.

After removing the guide, carefully cut off the remaining finish off the foot of the guide using a razor to separate it from blank rod. This will make the guide foot easier to remove, and will prevent any damage. The foot is extremely sharp and could cut or nick fingers.

You may need to apply some force to remove the guide, but be careful not to chip or break the foot. After you have separated the old guide from the rod blank, make sure to take out all of the epoxy and threads that remain where it was affixed. This will prevent future problems with the guide.

After removing the previous guide, check the new one by putting it in its permanent location. Apply a few rotations using masking tape or guide tubing to ensure it stays in place. This will allow you double examine the guide's spacing and alignment to ensure that everything is properly set up. This step is crucial to avoid future problems regardless of whether you are using the CRB Spine Finder and Deflection System, or eyeball it.

If the guide is positioned properly and is functioning according to its intended function then the final step will be to put the door back in place. Remember to tighten and replace any screws or pins that you removed or loosen.

Take the Bottom Pivot off.

Bifold doors are a beautiful feature for any home, but sometimes they need a little tweaking or adjustment to stay in top shape. While some of the simpler issues can be fixed with the doors still in place, some require them to be removed. Gathering your tools is the first step. Getting everything together prior to time will make it easier later on in the project. You'll also require pliers and a screwdriver. You can pick up a basic set of tools at your local hardware store for a reasonable price. Keep a supply of wood glue on hand. However they can also be purchased online from various vendors. In addition to a brand-new top guide for rollers, you'll require a small bottle of Elmer's wood glue which is sold in large box stores as well as a squeeze clamp.
