In 2020, the first year of the coronavirus pandemic, I saw an advertisement for the Diamond Princess to resume service in 2021, and I bought a ticket because it was so cheap. It took two years to postpone, but I boarded the ship from June 8th to June 13th.

Now, the Diamond Princess seems to be departing from Japan for the time being, so I would like to write about the casino on board and the casino on Jeju Island (Seogwipo side), which is the port of call this time.

■Diamond Princess Casino "Grand Casino"

- There are 10 to 15 table games. Roulette (1 machine), BJ, poker, baccarat (2 machines. 1 open machine), and craps. BJ is the most common. No big or small.

・Baccarat is non-squeezed 6.5, min6USD/max500USD

・Chips can be exchanged with US dollar cash or ship ID

・Opening hours are decided based on the conditions of the sea area (more than 12 nautical miles from the coastline of Japan) and other factors. The captain decides and posts the opening hours on the ship's newspaper or app the day before. When I boarded the ship, the opening hours were shorter than the following.

・No smoking (It seems that you can smoke secretly at the slots depending on the time, but there is a bar nearby where you can smoke. No need to buy drinks)

I played a little bit of baccarat, but since it is non-squeezed, if there are few people, the game progresses at an incredible speed and you will almost certainly lose, so I participated for 30 minutes to just under an hour per round. I didn't see any serious players, and if you bet more than 25USD, you will be relatively noticeable. Everyone was losing, albeit slowly...that was my impression (I don't know about BJ or roulette). Someone, please give the bookmaker (Princess Cruises) a run for their money! I made a total of +60 USD during my stay, which is one zero short, but if I did that, I would have ended up with a zero more in the negative.

■Jeju Island Casinos

There are two ports on Jeju Island where large passenger ships can dock. Jeju Port on the city side and Seogwipo Port in the southern resort area. This time we went to Seogwipo Port, and there are two casinos nearby.

The Shilla Jeju Hotel and Lotte Hotel Jeju.

This time, the port call started at 7am, and the last boarding was at 3:30pm, but the casinos' opening hours were:

- Jeju Shilla Hotel (Mega Luck Casino) 4pm to midnight

- Lotte Hotel Jeju (Seven Star Casino) 1pm to midnight

I was not able to enter (as of June 2023). Weekends are no different. Also, when it comes to casinos in Korea, Paradise and Seven Luck are the two that come to mind, but it seems that they are run by different companies (Mega Luck Casino is run by KAL), and the atmosphere inside would have been different, which was a shame.

I think all cruise ships arrive at the same time, so if you are arriving at Seogwipo Port, you will not be able to go to the casino.

When I arrived on a cruise ship before, it was at Jeju Port, so I was able to go to the casino, but that was before COVID, so I don't know what it's like now.

This is my third cruise trip. The previous two times I was with Royal Caribbean, but in terms of casinos, Royal Caribbean may win, although I may think so because there are big and small ones.

I would like to continue taking cruises, but I learned this time that it takes at least 6 to 7 days, and the Wi-Fi is very weak, so it is still difficult to use it as a workcation, so I will probably wait and see for a while.

Next time, I'll be in Macau in August, my first time in 3 years and 7 months. I'll arrive at Macau Airport. It seems that the free shuttle service has been reduced, I don't like taking taxis overseas, and my Macau Pass seems to require activation at some point after 3 years or more. Although I'm supposed to be familiar with Macau, I'm sure I'll be running around in circles from the moment I arrive, but I'll enjoy myself.
