WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which will show an image of the item when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. They can use Flightstones, which are a common upgrade items currency available to all, or crests, which are more specific and consumed during upgrades on specific levels of items. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade items paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade item their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
