PSIS Semarang has undergone significant changes ahead of the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season, with many key players moving on. Two crucial local defenders, Fredyan Wahyu and Wahyu Prasetyo, have transferred to Malut United. They follow in the footsteps of Hari Nur Yulianto, who made the same move last season. Additionally, PSIS Semarang lost Taisei Marukawa, a key foreign player, to Dewa United. PSIS cited foreign player regulations as a reason for Marukawa’s departure. However, PSIS has made new signings to strengthen the squad, including Zalnando, who was loaned from Persib Bandung. Additionally, promising young players Aulia Rahman (17) and Rahmat Syawal (18) are expected to make a significant impact. Here is a recap of PSIS Semarang’s official transfers at the start of the 2024/2025 season:

Persib Bandung (4-2-3-1): Kevin Ray Mendoza; Edo Febriansyah, Nick Kuipers, Gustavo Franca, Robi Darwis; Marc Klok, Dedi Kusnandar; Ciro Alves, Mailson Duarte, Dimas Drajad; David da Silva. Coach: Bojan Hodak

persebaya-surabaya_662065d.jpgThe use of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is not new to BRI Liga 1 or Indonesian football in general. VAR was introduced during the Championship Series of the 2023/2024 season. However, for the 2024/2025 season, VAR will be used in all BRI Liga 1 matches. To maintain the VAR equipment at stadiums, there is a regulation imposing a fine of IDR 100 million for any damage caused by players or officials. Additionally, the home club is responsible for the security of the VAR equipment, with a penalty of IDR 500 million for any violations.

Bhayangkara FC is deeply disappointed with their performance in the 2023/2024 season, which saw them relegated from BRI Liga 1. As a result, The Guardians will compete in Liga 2 for the upcoming season. However, Bhayangkara FC is determined not to remain in the second tier of Indonesian football for long. The club is focused on a swift return to BRI Liga 1. To achieve this, they have been preparing seriously and have been in intense training since early June 2024. The squad for Liga 2 has been strengthened with the addition of players such as Ilija Spasojevic from Bali United and Andy Setyo from Persikabo 1973, both of whom have represented the Indonesian national team.

The BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season will kick off on Friday, August 9, 2024. The match between Persib Bandung and PSBS Biak at Stadion Si Jalak Harupat will mark the beginning of the new top-tier competition. Like last season, 18 clubs will participate in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. However, this season will see the addition of three promoted teams from Liga 2: PSBS Biak, Semen Padang, and Malut United. They will replace Persikabo 1973, RANS Nusantara FC, and Bhayangkara FC, who have been relegated to Liga 2. The regulations for BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 have been released to the public, and several notable changes have been made compared to the 2023/2024 season. Here’s a detailed overview of the new regulations.

Changes to foreign player regulations are also notable. For the 2024/2025 season, each club is allowed to contract up to eight foreign players. There is no restriction on the countries of origin for these players. However, there are regulations regarding the competitive tier of the clubs where the players are from. From the eight foreign players, only six can be on the field at the same time. This is a change from the 2023/2024 season, where clubs could contract six foreign players with five being unrestricted and one from ASEAN.

In terms of regulations for youth players, BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 will implement new rules. Each club is required to field at least one player under 22 years old (U-22) for a minimum of 45 minutes per game. Clubs are exempt from this requirement if two or more of their players are called up to the Indonesian National Team. In contrast, the 2023/2024 season had a requirement to play U-23 players, but this regulation was abolished towards the end of the season.

The match, held at Stadion Si Jalak Harupat, was intense from the start. Both teams were engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of attacks. The first significant chance came when David Da Silva capitalized on a corner by Mailson, but the ball went wide of PSBS Biak’s goal. Persib opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Starting from a counterattack, Dimas Drajad delivered a cross from the right, which David Da Silva converted into a goal. Persib was ahead 1-0. The lead gave Persib more confidence, and they continued to press PSBS Biak, but the score remained 1-0 until halftime.

Moreover, Bhayangkara FC has brought back experienced senior player Ruben Sanadi, who previously helped PSBS Biak achieve promotion to Liga 1. The team has also retained several top performers such as Matias Mier, Junior Brandao, Dendy Sulistyawan, Putu Gede, Muhammad Hargianto, and Awan Setho. Matias Mier will once again be crucial in midfield, having scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 46 appearances last season. Junior Brandao was a top scorer candidate, netting 16 goals and adding four assists in 30 matches after his transfer from Madura United. Radja Nainggolan, who was previously with AS Roma and Inter Milan, will not be part of the squad for the next season as his contract was not extended. With these adjustments, Bhayangkara FC aims to return to Liga 1, under the guidance of the experienced coach Gomes de Oliveira.
