Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your equipment without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will help you understand how to upgrade your items.

Upgrades to equipment provide a bonus on the item's stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the parts that improve your armor and weapons more effective. You can get them from fighting off enemies, locating them in item spheres or buying them from karma merchants. They can also be salvaged from equipment with them, or by utilizing a high-tier salvage kit like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed when they are removed from an item.

The primary function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded but they also serve other functions.
